“It’s not about making the ‘right’ decision, it’s about making the decision right.” — Dr. Ellen Langer, psychology professor at Harvard
If you’re feeling stuck or uncertain, make a decision based on the facts at hand and commit to it, rather than agonize over if it was “right.” Debating that hiking trip to Kathmandu? Request the time off. Wondering if a new friend actually wants to hang? Invite them to coffee. Stuck mulling over word choice for brand positioning in a client workshop? Choose a strong direction, then iterate and refine the language later. As an experiment, try taking action on the things that make you anxious—there’s freedom in knowing all roads hold consequences (and joyous rewards 🙂).
